Entry Description:

Uarhiecha. It is the visual record of the traditional dress of each of the more than 80 P'urhépecha communities that exist, the aim is to publish a book with all the images and data collected, toponymy, historical events, celebrations and other elements that make up society of the different original communities.
Uarhiecha is a project that is composed of everything I see and know in the journey I do for the communities that surround me, the people who receive me there tell me about their customs and traditions, the meaning of clothing and the cosmovision of these ancient peoples.

About Photographer:
My name is Eduardo López, I'm from Paracho Michoacán México, a small town on the mountains. Some years ago I started with Uërani, an organization that seeks to rescue, strengthen and promote the artistic and cultural expressions of our P'urhépecha culture. Since 2014 to date, I have sought to promote the most deeply rooted traditions we have in our communities and the region in general, so I have made a photographic record of various festivals and customs of the different indigenous peoples I have visited, including the celebration of Fire New P'urhépecha in February 2016 and 2017. Through different activities I have contributed what I could to our communities. I participated in the Second and Third Paracho International Film Festival, contributed to the registration of activities and promotion of the youth orchestra of Uruapan and Paracho as well as the indigenous children's orchestras of Nurio and Cherán. At the same time I am developing  Paracho al Récord Guinness, which was held last year in a first edition, seeking to promote the construction of more than 400 years in Paracho of stringed instruments and especially guitars, calling people from all over the country to perform in unison musical pieces and achieve a global record. In addition to this I register other cultural and artistic activities inside and outside my community accompanying dance groups, orchestras, musicians of different genres, traditional rites and others.
