Photographer: João Galamba, Portugal
Prize: Silver Award

Entry Description:
From North to South, East to West, children are happy. For some, as probably with these, the dream of staying happy will be cut off: life will take care of replacing sincere smiles with hungry stomachs. These children are a lesson to all of us: born in Timor-Leste, a country that was raised from ashes after independence from Indonesia, have nothing more than their imagination. With these children I've learned two important things: that we shall never forget that we can be happy with little, and that we always remember that we have the right to be happy with more.

About Photographer:
João Galamba was born in 1989 in Portugal and in 2013 he moved to Timor-Leste (East Timor). Since he have started making photos he was awarded in over 30 photo contests, portuguese and international, including best portuguese photographer in Sony World Awards 2014 and PSA Silver in Nature Category in Swiss International Photo Contest. In May 2017 he published my first photo book, with more than 200 pages filled with photos of Timor-Leste, with preface of Xanana Gusmão (former leader of timorese resistance against indonesian occupation, then former President and Prime-Minister after independence) and published by Porto Editora, the biggest portuguese publisher house.
