Photographer: Song Zhuda, China
Prize: Honorable Mention
Entry Description:
It was in January of 2017 in Pakistan that I took the photos of the refugee children. Inspired by Steve McCurry, I hope to introduce my photos to help the children who have been suffering a lot. I spent my spare time at school taking pictures to earn my travel expenses and finally persuaded my parents to be permitted to travel alone to Pakistan to complete my dream shooting plan. I worked as a humanitarian volunteer with local students to help those barely subsistence people in Afghanistan. Living conditions were extremely terrible and crimes occured frequently. Hereditary diseases were quite common due to the lack of medical aid. Food, clothing and housing problems were too difficult to be solved, and education was more luxury to afford. What is worse, they were likely to receive deportation from the government of Pakistan at any time. Such tragedies happen every day. I visited eight refugee camps in a month to record these heartbreaking moments. No words could describe the suffering and fear there. During the course of volunteer work, I encountered several camera robbery and theft. Yet I still have hope for them, because the children represent the future. I can't show more photos for.the number requirements. I still hope that my photos can help them get a better future. They need our immediate attention and assistance.
