Entry Description:
This photo was taken of red-crowned cranes in Akan of Hokkaido in Japan. The red-crowned crane (Grus japonensis), also called the Japanese crane or Manchurian crane, is one of the rarest cranes in the world.
These birds symbolize beauty and longevity in Japan. The red-crowned cranes' dance is a ritual that the pair performs together many times over the years, to strengthen their lifelong bond. During the dance two cranes face each another, raise their heads toward the sky. As they call, the pairs begin to dance. They bow to one another, then throw their heads over their backs, then bow again. The pair leaps into the air, at the same time they are raising their wings.
About Photographer:
My name is Csilla Schreck. I live in Szigetszentmiklós in Hungary. The visual art and thinking was part of my early years but I started taking photos just at the university. I was more interested in the social photography during the university as a historian and cultural anthropologist. I used this technic as a documentary during the field researches. Art and creativity have been missing from my life for many years. In order to bring back the creativity into my life, I bought my first digital SLR camera in 2014.
My 2014's Japanese journey influenced me very much. I was sitting among the Japanese macaques with a camera in my hands for several hours. I was surprised by their emotional-rich personalities. I was sure that I would like to study nature photography from this moment. That was the reason why I applied for a photography course and the photography became an important part of my life.
Nature photography means the artistic visualization of nature for me. I like taking photos of anything that inspires me. Since the nature wasn't definitely part of my life until the photography, anytime when I go taking photos, I am always surprised how beautiful, fragile and varied the surrounding nature is. I always go home with rich experience.
